Song of the Week: The Gift

I have been listening to Annie Lennox during my commute for the past couple of days, and I really like "The Gift", from her Diva album:

Darling don't you understand
I feel so ill at ease
The room is full of silence and it's getting hard to breathe
Take this guilted cage of pain and set me free
Take this overcoat of shame
It never did belong to me
It never did belong to me

I need to go outside
I need to leave the smoke
'cause I can't go on living in this same sick joke
It seems our lives have taken on a different kind of twist
Now that you have given me the perfect gift
You have given me the gift

For we have fallen from our shelves
To face the truth about ourselves
And we have tumbled from our trees
Tumbled from our trees

And I can almost...
I can almost feel the rain falling
Don't you know it feels so good
So let's go out into the rain again
Just like we said we always would

Listening to the song, it sounds like "gilded" cage, but several different online lyric lists show it as "guilted". I guess it works with either spelling.

This song has great lyrics. I love her voice, but never heard this one yet...may have to gift myself the album!

It is "gilded." I had this album with the lyric sheet (I don't know what's happened to it in several moves since.)

This song was a huge one for me years ago when I was beginning to sort through not only mormonish issues but other personal issues and having to come to grips with the past. Thanks for posting it Equality--takes me back. It's amazing to me to think how far I've come since then.

Excuse me, thanks -DOMO- for posting it (didn't notice the tiny writing that says it was your post.)

belaja,

Blame the tiny writing on me. I am too tech unsavvy to figure out how to customize my page design to put the author name in larger print up with the title of the post, which is what I'd like to do. It's probably doable in Typepad (I know it is in Wordpress) but y'all are lucky this Luddite can even manage to figure out how to post to a blog.

No worries--I just simply blamed my failing eyesight. :-)
