Song of the Week: Witch Hunt

With tickets for their upcoming tour going on sale tomorrow, and with General Conference kicking off this weekend, it seems appropriate to feature another song by one of my favorite bands, Rush.  It's called Witch Hunt, and is from their most successful album, Moving Pictures.

The night is black
Without a moon
The air is thick and still
The vigilantes gather on
The lonely torch lit hill

Features distorted in the flickering light
The faces are twisted and grotesque
Silent and stern in the sweltering night
The mob moves like demons possessed
Quiet in conscience, calm in their right
Confident their ways are best

The righteous rise
With burning eyes
Of hatred and ill-will
Madmen fed on fear and lies
To beat and burn and kill

They say there are strangers who threaten us
In our immigrants and infidels
They say there is strangeness too dangerous
In our theaters and bookstore shelves
That those who know what's best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves

Quick to judge
Quick to anger
Slow to understand
Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand in hand...

For those who watch General Conference, see if those bolded words don't flash through your mind as you listen to some of the talks.

Moving Pictures was the very first cassette tape I ever bought--you've inspired me to pull out a few Rush albums!

Mmm, Rush. Love 'em. I saw them in concert at The Meadowlands back in the mid '90s. Then we went on a holiday to Toronto and had to drive all over the Rose-something area to try and find Geddy Lee's house. Groupie touring ya know.

wry,

I had no idea you were a Rush-head. Did you find Geddy's house? Maybe knock on the door, shoot some hoops with him?

Did NOT find his house, but not for lack of trying! And while I'm a Rush fan, no b-ball would happen now how - I don't shoot hoops with no one. Lucky I'm a girl, cuz if I'da been a boy, I woulda been shunned by the mormons ages ago on accounta my crap hoops skillz.

Boy without hoops skilz? Almost as bad as a girl WITH hoops skilz... I noticed there were a lot of girls with great hoops skils in the MTC. No wonder those chicks couldn't snag a man in time to avoid a mission! ;^)
